Good Cents for Oakland
510akland is proud to partner with Good Cents for Oakland to help build support for the important work they do teaching kids to be aware, informed and involved in their communities.
Good Cents for Oakland is a non-profit founded in 2005, and strives to empower Oakland's elementary school children and teach them they can make a difference in our community. Our mission at Good Cents is to teach students that they can play a meaningful role in making Oakland a better place. Over 2,000 children participate in our free, 10-week Penny Roundup program at eight Oakland elementary schools each year. Students learn about issues affecting people in Oakland and vote, as a school, on an issue to support. Student leaders interview and select an Oakland-based non-profit working to support the school’s chosen issue to receive 100% of the pennies (aka “Good Cents”) and other coins the children "round up" during the program. Since 2005, students have raised over $35,000 for local non-profits. Our Penny Roundup Program combines service to the community with academic enrichment activities.

We support Oakland schools
We know Oakland schools have to concentrate their resources to give students their greatest chance for success. That’s why we offer our program to schools at no charge and pass along 100% of what children raise to their chosen non-profit.

A commitment to community
We're a small, grassroots non-profit based in Oakland and dedicated to helping kids make Oakland a better place. Working with community partners, we engage families in outreach events to help our city.
